Can you hold a memorial service after a direct cremation in Australia?

Absolutely. And a lot of our families do that. It's becoming more and more popular, especially with the cost of living these days. A lot of times that also gives families time to breathe and mourn the loss of their loved one, and then, with a clearer mind, plan a service. Logistically, it can be a little bit easier because you're not constrained by having a coffin present at a service, which can rule out a lot of venues and services. For instance, you could organise the cremation through us here at Willed Funerals, and then a couple of weeks later, when you've had a chance to catch your breath and family travelling from interstate have had time to organise themselves, we can hold a memorial service at your chosen location. We can organise the same elements that we would for a funeral service, just as a memorial. The only real difference is that the coffin isn't present. You can have ashes present if you wish, or you can have no ashes present. You can still have your celebrant or a minister. You can have it in a church, a chapel or a private venue, but you would just have either the ashes or no ashes present.
