In this video, James Daniels, funeral arranger at Willed, explains the general rule: there are no national restrictions on scattering ashes in Australia. The catch, as James covers in the video above, is public spaces. Before scattering at a park, beach, or other public place, check with the local council, since some have their own rules or require permission. Ashes are often central to a farewell too; watch how a memorial service can be the most cost-effective way to hold a funeral.

There’s no hard and fast answer to that. You can spread ashes where you’d like, but obviously there are some areas where you will need to check with local councils just to make sure that you’re doing the right thing and not breaking any rules or regulations. So I would suggest checking with your local council if you do plan to spread them at, say, a park or a beach or something like that. But generally there’s no real restrictions on where you can scatter ashes.
