How do you cancel or change a power of attorney in Australia?

You can generally revoke or replace a power of attorney without the attorney’s consent while you still have legal capacity. The required form and witnessing rules depend on your state or territory. Give the revocation or replacement document to the attorney and any organisation relying on the old authority, such as your bank, solicitor or land titles office.

Yes, absolutely. You can change or cancel a power of attorney without the consent of the attorney as long as you have legal capacity to do so. To do it properly, you must, depending on the state you are in, prepare a new power of attorney or a formal document revoking your power of attorney. That document should then be provided to your attorney as well as other institutions such as banks, land titles offices, and your solicitor. If you have lost capacity, you cannot revoke the document. That can only be done by a tribunal or a court.
